Day 3 The North Shore

Saturday Morning we started off the day with a recommendation on a great place for pancakes. I local joint that looked meh but was really great.
This is Dani's Restaurant. Before long it was standing room only.
So after our great banana and pineapple pancakes we hit the road again going north this time. We found the Wailua Falls. They were beautiful and they are taller than they look. We got there just as five bus loads of cruise tourists pulled up so we hurried and beat them. It's not too hard to beat all the senior citizens over to the lookout area, lol.
Just on the other side was this beautiful view of the river and an old Hawaiian village built beside it to tour if you wanted. We drove all over the place again. We followed the road until it ended clear up in the mountains. It was just a gorgeous drive. Then when the road ended we followed the dirt road until we were afraid it was going to pour rain and we would get stuck on a bad road in the middle of nowhere!

Our second set of waterfalls that day.
We found the cutest little restaurant for lunch.
I just loved all the pineapple details everywhere. So adorable. The food was pretty good too. After lunch we drove some more going mostly north into some amazing neighborhoods of exclusive homes. They must have been worth a fortune.
We kept on going and found an really cool lighthouse. The volcanic rock was so black and hot. It was a bird sanctuary. We skipped the tour. We could see the birds for ourselves.
There was a sea turtle out there that you can't see.
This beach was beautiful and right off the road.

After all that driving we worked up a need for shaved ice again. I had read that Wishing Well was the place to be and it was really good. Luckily we beat this big old line.
This beach was huge and the trucks could drive right on on it. To the left there was a river that went down to the ocean and lots of people were cliff diving from the rocks along the river into the water.
Everywhere we went the views were just amazing.
Getting close to the end of the road.
You had to cross this river that ran right across the road!
Finally the end of the road at another state park
There was a wet cave and a dry cave. I'm not going to lie, I was a little nervous with this warning sign! Luckily there were no rocks falling that day.
We got back about dark after all the driving. You would have thought
we'd seen it all by now but nope. There was more to come.
