State Pics

Just a few of our favorite pictures from the state game:

Awesome

Hayden and the Pirates Take State!

I like that headline. Well it was a tense couple of weekends but they pulled it off. The division tournament was crazy enough but that was just the beginning. The Pirates beat Boulder City in the first round 74-56. That was such a fun game even though BC played us tough at times. I loved that every single player got in the game even the jv kids that got brought up. I love that since they all work hard.
The game Sat might was pretty intense. Winner take all and Virgin Valley expected that would be them. They thought wrong. We won 47-37. We were so excited Christina could make it down for this game. Even Grandpa and Grandma were there after Grandma has her skin cancer surgery and everything. They are always so supportive going to everything they can.
Here is the team with their Division plaque. Awesome but not the big prize...yet.. Friday night they had to beat South Tahoe at the Orleans. I think they were pretty nervous but probably not as nervous as the rest of us. (Course Mendis claims he was never nervous.) They had a great lead but Tahoe wittled it down to nothing. We went to overtime! Thank goodness we picked it up and won 72-64 after a nail biting game.
Saturday was the big one -the state championships against Lawry.I know this picture looks strange but I think it's cool. The starting lineups were in the dark with the music and light show...so fun.

We were down by 14 points in the 3rd quarter. Talk about grueling. I had no finger nails left to bite. Hayden really turned it on and started the rally that brought them back and up by 12 points to win the game. It was incredible, quite possibly his best game ever. He tore it up! He wasn't alone with all his teammates rising to the occasion. Seriously amazing. They were pressing the other team, stealing the ball, running back and forth and making shots like crazy. I guess you had to be there!! It was so fun that Jeff was here all the way from Idaho to see his brother take state. Ashley came with her two little boys to help cheer them on. Grandpa & Grandma Cooper were there of course and Charlie & Alisha and Rob & Beth and all their kids! What a party. We have some cool pictures coming and I will share.

And the winner is...

...Dixie State College.

Wait maybe Hayden is the winner here. After a fun couple of months getting phone calls from here to New York and many points in between Hayden has decided to play football for Dixie. He had some great choices and it was down to Mesa or Dixie but he decided to go to Dixie. We couldn't be happier for him. He has put alot of hard work into this over alot of years. It's hard to believe just yesterday he was drawing up football plays with Casen and Kelan on the kindergarten playground. They even had a draft in elementary school for pete's sake. He always had the dream of playing college ball and now he gets his chance. He will play this fall then go on his mission as soon as the season ends. A big shout out to all his coaches and everyone who had helped him along the way.
Here he is signing his athletic scholarship. He finds out tomorrow if he got an academic scholarship too. Sweet.

Haydo you are a rock star!

Money Epiphany

So I was killing time in the Dr office reading a magazine and I read a way cool article on spending money. There was a woman that was raised poor but is now very wealthy. Everything she owned in her home was something that she loved. Not just liked but loved. Here's how she did it.

1. Spend Top Dollar on items that you really need and really love.
2. Spend bottom dollar on items that you really need but don't really love.
3. Remaining dollar items should be items you don't really need but really love.
4. Spend no money on items you don't really need and don't really love.

So simple but so cool. I always end up buying things because they are a great deal and I just make do with them. Usually that means I end up not liking them very much in no time. SO stop agonizing over items I need and love and just get it if I can afford it. Shop around to get the best deals on things you have to have like insurance etc. Save some money for stuff I really love and stop spending money on stuff just cause it's on sale!!

Credit Union

I got thinking tonight I should mention that I am on the Credit Union Supervisory Committee these days. The coolest thing really. It all happened pretty fast. I was thinking it would take awhile and maybe it would be after I finished up my time on the Boosters Board but nope that's not how it worked out. So a little overlap here and there and here I am.
Here's my philosophy: Everyone should volunteer to do something somewhere for the community. Let's face it Mendis is tapped so it is up to me to represent. I have served on the Little League board and the Boosters so this is a stretch for me. Everyone has been super nice to me and made me feel at home from the start. It's alot to take in right now but I am excited to do this. I need to dust off all the financial training from BYU years ago that's for sure. It's been a few months already and I am sure some people are wondering what I am doing there but I think it's cool.
